When a teenage girl is murdered on a vacation island, the police quickly run out of leads. And a very unusual character steps in to help.
At just eleven-years-old Billy Wheatley is a little young to play detective, but then he’s something of a child prodigy. Or at least, he thinks he is. And with no concern for the trouble he might cause – or the danger he might get into – he embarks upon the most unusual investigation you’ve ever seen.
He quickly makes a series of connections the police missed – but then Billy has one big advantage. He knows every inch of the desolate beaches and rolling dunes of his island home. And with an interest in Marine Biology bordering on obsession, he’s able to bring real scientific technique to bear in breaking the case.
But he has one huge disadvantage too – he’s just a kid. So when the trail of clues leads perilously close to home, the fun is quickly sucked out of his games. Because this killer isn’t just someone he knows – it’s the only person he thought he could trust.
And while Billy might just be smart enough to solve this case, is he strong enough to catch a murderer, all on his own?
