My Promise

My Promise…

Her Irish Grandmother, whom she called MO-ree, raised Courtney Larkspur until MO-ree woke up in heaven one morning. Moving the few blocks back to her parents’ home, Courtney came with more influence from MO-ree than from her own parents. The most important being that she wanted, was to wait until she was at least twenty-five years old before stepping into that all important role of wife and eventually mother.

Her mother and sister convinced Father that Courtney’s best chance at securing a good union was slipping away and began the process of finding her a husband that would unite two good families. When she could see that her wishes would not be heeded, she caved to the inevitable.

All her dreams of following in MO-ree’s footsteps were pushed aside for a traveling life with Rutherford Johnson. Even her wedding was completely distasteful to the young woman. What she discovered on her wedding night made her flee from all she knew to forge a life of her own.

Knowing that she would never find love or have children of her own because of the vows she made, Courtney found that life could still have some joy.
