When author Amy Mathis’s father passed away in 2015, she was amazed at all the people who approached her at the funeral with stories about how James “Jimmy” Mathis had changed or influenced their lives. She was amazed, but certainly not surprised. These were simply the ideals that her father embodied every day. Now, Amy wants to introduce others to her father and the life philosophy that allowed him to truly make a difference.
Jimmy’s biography starts simply with the boy himself. He is about to go on a new adventure not by choice. When he and his brother enter the Strawbridge Home for Boys in Sykesville, Maryland, they have no idea what to expect. What they find is family, faith, and love. This formative experience would influence Jimmy in so many ways. It allowed him to grow in his Christian faith. These would be some of the most important drivers for Jimmy’s eventual passion and commitment to doing good for others.
