Isabella flees the deadly pestilence, which ravages London in the 1300’s. She escapes the chill hallways, rampant with illness, in the manor house in which she lives, along with her treacherous cousin, Hastulf who has dark plans of his own, which she wants no part of.
Matheu of Thorneton, a tournament knight, offers his assistance to her on more than one occasion, when she finds herself at the mercy of those who would seek to harm her. It seems an act of God has brought them together, and yet duty to others will continue to keep them apart.
Isabella and her sister are soon thrust into a bleak situation, where she is forced to consider the proposal of another man’s hand in marriage, one she clearly has no love for. Will she accept his offer in attempts to secure a stable future for her and her sister, or will she take a chance and risk everything for love?
