Dark Lament is a dark fantasy, inspired by the crusades, about a young man named Vas that was raised by monks to be a clerical healer, one that channels the light of Heaven to mend the broken and cure the sick. But when his friend dies in a farming accident, Vas defies the will of Heaven by making a deal with a dark entity and turning to the black art of necromancy to restore his friend to life.
The repercussions of this unnatural act have catastrophic consequences, the worst being the deaths of several monks and the sister of the girl he loves. As Vas’s new dark powers begin to spiral out of control, he searches for answers in the apocryphal accounts of the Color Crusades and a paladin that fell from grace and arose as the death knight; a being that single-handedly destroyed half the known world in the last crusade, the Black Crusade.
While Vas tries to come to terms with what he is becoming, the community is assailed by an army of undead whose necromancer commander is bent upon using Vas to bring back the death knight. Vas must reconcile his own past and decide between watching his friends die or accepting a greater darkness to save them.
