Balance Theory: The Connection between Self-Esteem and Wellness

The words “nature” and “God” are numerologically the same, the reason being that nature undoubtedly knows how to balance itself. The same goes for our body. As creatures of nature, we continuously strive for natural, emotional, mental and physical balance. We can do it. However, getting there is possible, only when we decide to pull ourselves together and take that bold step and start empowering our inner abilities.

It was a bright Sunday morning, I was just finishing my workout at the gym, about to start my day when the phone rang. On the other end of the line, was my son, calling from the remote military base where he was stationed.

He had just received his test results. What he told me changed my life forever. “Mom, I have juvenile diabetes”, he said.

It took us two days to absorb the news. On the third day we pulled ourselves together, straightened our backs, lifted our heads, got up and embarked together on a journey – we were going to beat it!

At that moment the “Balance Theory” was born.
I am Smadar Maizles (Ph.d) – an expert in health sciences and the developer of the “Balance Theory” which is based on my doctoral thesis. Married and the mother of three as well as a proud grandmother, I worked for many years as an economist until that moment when my youngest was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Then I changed course.

I successfully completed my doctorate in health sciences, and today I run a diabetes management clinic, give lectures and organize workshops for healthy lifestyle as an alternative therapist and a certified emotional trainer.

The “Balance Theory” is a first-of-its-kind training, practical, hands-on and effective method based on a new field of research called psychoneuroimmunology – which studies the connections between the conscious system, and the nervous, hormone and the immune systems, and their impact on our health. Psychoneuroimmunology research points at a direct link between stress, uncontrolled negative emotions, blood sugar levels and illness in general.

The”Balance Theory” method combines empowerment training and tools adopted from complementary medicine and psychology, to balance body, mind and spirit, through nutrition and exercise.

I was privileged to teach this method and witness its success with parents of juvenile diabetic children in the support groups I initiated, as well as on the social network. I am there for them from day one throughout the whole process.

Happiness does not depend on external factors – it is the strongest health generator of all! Instead of fighting in the dark, let’s turn on the light (A.D. Gordon)
