THINGS THAT CAN FALL

From the author of THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE, SO FAR comes a dark tragicomedy of the Seventies, with off-Broadway stage manager Libby losing sleep over a fascinating gay actor. Her insomnia’s not wholly unrequited; Neil prefers applause to whatever her body can give him, but that’s okay. Better than what’s going on with little Ramon, dying to become a girl just as longtime partner Reggito turns abusive. Or best friend Michelle, addicted to depressed boyfriend A.P., a musician whose beautiful but crippled self everyone seems to covet. All are threatened by money worries, restless streets, violent crime, and iffy employment. AIDS lurks unknown just over the horizon. Yet danger is seductive here in the East Village, blackly romantic. Something to be in love with. A.P. alone, having already died once, glimpses its actual nature, the open reeking pit at everybody’s feet. Talk about insomnia
